Winter berries at Alnwick Garden

Imagine strolling along a deserted beach complete with majestic castle, exploring the Northumberland National Park either for a short 3 to 5 mile walk or a hike up the Cheviot, or visiting one of the many National Trust properties like Cragside or Wallington Hall. Of course these activities are available all year round, but imagine making your way back to a cosy, luxurious cottage at the end of the day.

Hill walking or shopping, the choice is yours!

If you're done walking or it's not your thing, there are plenty of other attractions some chronicling the county's heritage like the Roman fort of Vindolanda at Hadrian's Wall and some a bit more 'now' like the Centre for Life, The Baltic or The Sage.

There's also a good deal of shopping to be done. The market towns like Alnwick and Hexham have many specialists shops, while Newcastle boasts one of the finest shopping centres in the country, not to mention Gateshead's Metro Centre. Christmas shopping a speciality!
